Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The available key study (2014), in which the toxicity of tetramethylthiuram disulfide (CAS No. 137-26-8) to activated sludge microorganisms of a predominantly domestic sewage treatment plant was investigated, was performed according to the OECD Guideline No. 209 (GLP). Activated sludge microorganisms were exposed for 3 h to nominal test item concentrations of 0, 0.1, 0.3, 1.0, 3.2, 10 mg/L in the presence and absence of the nitrification inhibitor N-allythiourea. Concentration dependent effects on the total respiration rate and respiration rate due to nitrification of the activated sludge microorganisms were observed after 3 h of exposure. The 3-hour EC10 and EC50 for total respiration were calculated to be 0.6 and 18.2 mg a.i./L (nominal), respectively. For heterotrophic respiration, no dose related effects could be determined while the 3-hour EC 10 and EC50 for oxygen uptake due to nitrification were calculated to be 2.1 and 6.9 mg a.s./L (nominal), respectively.
