First-aid measures

Inhalation:  After inhalation move to fresh air. If shortness of breath occurs, support respiration and consult a physician.  Bring patient immediately to fresh air. If breathing is heavily give oxygen; if necessary respirate artificially. Call physician.

Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing. Rinse contaminated skin immediately with plenty of water and soap and seek medical advice.

Eye Contact: Immediately rinse eyes thoroughly with running water as long as possible (approx. 15 min).  Take injured quickly to factory medical center or call an ambulance (code word: eye accident).

Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. In case of consciousness wash mouth with water and let drink some water. Seek medical advice. Keep patient at rest. If swallowed, seek medical advice immediately and show the container or label.

Notes to Physician:

General measures to eliminate the substance and to reduce absorption: Apply general supportive and symptomatic treatment.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable Extinguishing Media: Alcohol resistent foam, Dry sand, carbon dioxide (CO2)

Unsuitable Extinguishing Media: Water, Fire-extinguishing powder.

Dangerous Combustion Products:  hydrogen bromide, nitrogen oxides, carbon oxides

Advice for firefighters:

Protective equipment for firefighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and fire protective suit.

Accidental release measures

1. Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Personal precautions: Avoid contact with the skin and the eyes. Avoid breathing hazardous vapors/dusts. Wear personal protective equipment. Keep away unprotected persons.

2. Environmental precautions

Suppress gases/vapours/mists with water spray jet. Do not release on the soil or into drains.

3. Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

Wash away remains with plenty of water. Transfer large quantities into a container, rinse the rest with plenty of water.

Handling and storage

Conditions of storage: Protect against heat

Preventive Precautions (fire/explosion) : Take precautionary measures against static discharges. Avoid formation of dust. Keep away from sources of ignition. Observe the usual precautionary measures required for chemicals

with dust explosive properties (Observe national regulations).

Exposure controls / personal protection

Worker control:

Engineering: Appropriate containment is used in accordance with Novartis’s Global Pharma Engineering Standard which was developed in line with the IChemE Containment Standards. The 6-Bromo-1,2,4-triazin-3-amine will be charged via closed system (glovebox isolator). The plant equipment is designed, installed and validated according to industry best practice with Design Qualification (DQ), Installation Qualification, Operational Qualification and Performance Qualification (IQ,OQ,PQ) and is maintained in accordance with Engineering, Quality and HSE requirements. The design, installation and operation of the plant meet the current requirements of Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP).  All Production areas are designed and constructed with Good Engineering Practice (BATNEEC).

Administrative: A Process Risk Assessment is carried out well in advance of the Process commencing. The process Risk assessment is performed by appropriate personnel from Production, Site Services and HSE.  The substance is handled under controlled conditions by experienced process technicians.  All personal involved in the production must carefully study the Summary Safety Sheets (SSS) and the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals used in the process. The Risk Assessment is used to identify any Competence Gaps or Training Requirements. In addition there is an Internal ChemOps Competence Profile prepared for Key Positions which is used to determine Training Needs Analysis. HSE training to cover chemical handling, PPE, Access Safety Data Sheet etc. is provided. Pre campaign training is delivered to ensure operational and maintenance personnel are familiar with process hazards and chemical handling.  The process is highly regulated and validated in accordance with the Health and Regulatory Authorities.

Personal: appropriate chemical-protective personal protective equipment is worn where required.  Welfare facilities are provided including changing rooms and washing facilities.

Environmental control:

All wastes are incinerated in an approved, controlled furnace with combustion gas scrubbing and emission gas control.

Stability and reactivity

1. Reactivity.

Reaction products with water: None known

2. Chemical stability

Hydrolysis : no data available

3. Possibility of hazardous reactions

Materials to avoid: strong acids, strong bases

4. Conditions to avoid: ignition

5.Hazardous decomposition products: None, when used and handled as intended.

Disposal considerations

Incineration in an approved, controlled furnace with combustion gas scrubbing and emission

gas control.

Container Disposal: follow local regulations.
