Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: If vapour of this material is inhaled, remove from exposure.

Administer oxygen if there is difficulty in breathing.  Give

artifical respiration if person is not breathing and

continue until normal breathing is established.  Obtain

medical advice without delay.

Emergency measure - Eyes: In case of eye contact, immediately irrigate with plenty of

water for 15 minutes.  Obtain medical attention without

delay.

Emergency measure - Skin: In case of skin contact, remove contaminated clothing

without delay.  Wear impervious gloves.  Cleanse skin

thoroughly with soap and water.  Do not omit to clean hair

or under fingernails if contaminated.  Do not reuse clothing

without laundering.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: If quantities greater than 15 cc are swallowed induce

vomiting immediately as directed by mediical personnel.Do

NOT induce vomiting unless directed to do so by medical

personnel.

Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Use water spray, alcohol foam, carbon dioxide or dry

chemical to extinguish fires.  Water stream may be

ineffective.  Use water to keep containers cool.

Product arising from burning: Based on scientific judgment, thermal decomposition or

combustion may produce carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide,

hydrogen sulphide, and/or oxides of phosphorus and sulphur.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Wear self-contained positive pressure breathing apparatus

and full firefighting protective clothing.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Remove sources of ignition.  Where exposure level is not

known wear approved, positive pressure, self-contained

respirator.  Where exposure level is known, wear approved

respirator suitable for level of exposure.  To prevent skin

contact wear skin protection, such as impervious gloves,

apron, workpants, long-sleeve workshirt or disposable

overalls.  In addition, wear impervious boots.  To prevent

eye contact, wear eye protection such as chemical

splash-proof goggles or face shield.  Cover spills with some

inert material; sweep up and place in a waste disposal

container.  Flush area with water.

Handling and storage

Handling: Utilise in a closed system process where feasible.  Where

this material is not used in a closed system, good enclosure

and local exhaust ventilation should be provided to control

exposure.  Practice good hygiene.  Prevent eye and skin

contact.  To prevent eye and skin contact wear skin

protection such as impervious gloves, apron, workpants, long

sleeve workshirt or disposable overalls.  For operations

where eye or face contact can occur, wear eye protection

such as chemical splash-proof goggles or face shield.

Storage: Keep away from sources of ignition.  Do no smoke.  Take

precautionary measures against static discharges.  Areas

containing this material should have fire-safe practices and

electrical equipment in accordance with applicable

governmental regulations for products with the flashpoint

73.9°C.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Standard package is 400 lb in a polyethylene drum.  Plastic

totes, each containg 1000 kg can also be used.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery by absorption 620

The substance is used as a solvent extraction reagent.  The

solvent extraction process is continuous and recycling of

the substance is inherent to the process.  The substance can

be absorbed by activated charcoal.  Recovery from the

activated charcoal is by treatment with a hydrocarbon such

as toluene, the substance may then be reused.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not applicable.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Incinerate in other specfied incinerators   665

The substance is destroyed by thermal oxidation to produce

phosphoric acid.  Incineration is the only recommended

method for destruction of waste.  The incinerator should be

epuipped with scrubbers to remove P2O2 and SO2 and convert

them to the corresponding acid for which large markets are

available.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: Not applicable.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable, the substance is not available to the

general public.
