First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove to fresh air; symptomatic treatment.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Wash with water for at least 15 minutes, seek medical

advice.

Emergency measure - Skin: Wash with plenty of water.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Symptomatic treatment.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Combustion products may contain carbon and sulphur oxides

together with some soot. In the event of fire, water mist,

foam or dry powder are suitable extinguishing agents.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Observe any warnings on the drum, take appropriate

precautions. Contain spill, dampen down and shovel into

containers for disposal. Disposal is usually by burning or

burying at an approved tip (small quantities). Do not wash

into fishing waters.

Handling and storage

Handling: Normal standards of good housekeeping and industrial

hygiene should be observed to avoid exposure, particularly

of the eyes. Goggles should be worn.

Storage: No special precautions.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: None reported.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery of the substance from spillages is not

economically or technically feasible.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: Hot alkaline hydrolysis, above 70 deg C and pH9, should

neutralise the hazardous effects of substance.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Disposal of small quantities in sealed containers at a

controlled landfill site is possible.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: The substance may be disposed of by incineration. However,

waste gas purification to remove sulphur oxides is needed.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: At neutral pH the substance hydrolyses very slowly slowly.

It is not readily biodegradable and is toxic to aquatic

organisms. The substance should be diluted to a

concentration of less than 0.5 mg/l before discharge to

fishing waters or sewage systems. It does not bioaccumulate

in fish.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Recovery from paper is not possible as the substance is

bound to the surface.

Public at large - Possibility of neutralisation: Not applicable to substance when coated on paper.

Public at large - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Paper coated with the substance may be disposed of in the

usual manner for waste paper.
