Data on the toxicity of the target substance isobutyl laurate (CAS 37811-72-6) to aquatic microorganisms are not available. The assessment was therefore based on studies conducted with the structurally similar substance Isopropyl myristrate (CAS 110-27-0) as part of a read across approach, which is in accordance with Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006, Annex XI, 1.5. Further justification is given within the overall summary chapter 6.1 and within the analogue justification in section 13.
The toxicity of the source substance Isopropyl myristate (CAS 110-27-0) to Pseudomonas putida was tested according to a national guideline and GLP (Coenen, 1988). Nominal test substance concentrations ranged from 0.004 to 16 mg/L. After an incubation time of 18 h, no toxicity threshold could be determined, since all the measured extinction values were very close to the reference. Therefore, an EC50 (18 h) > 10 mg/L was stated based on an estimated limit of water solubility.
Based on the read across data it is assumed that isobutyl laurate (CAS 37811-72-6) has no inhibitory effects on aquatic microorganism activity.
