Additional information

The biodegradation of isobutyl laurate (CAS 37811-72-6) in seawater was tested in a guideline study following OECD 306. A test substance concentration of 1.81 mg/L was added to natural sea water. The biodegradation of the substance was determined by measuring the oxygen consumption of the test medium. After 28 days of incubation a degradation rate of 55% was recorded. Inhibitory effects of the substance were not determined. Thus, primary biodegradation of the substance in the marine environment is possible, though a ready biodegradation in sea water could not be demonstrated.
