Description of key information

According several non-GLP, non-OECD guideline studies, the substance did not cause corrosion or irritation on skin. Slight effects on eyes were reversible within 24h. Thus, the substance is regarded as non-irritating.

Additional information

Neat o-aminophenol as well as a 1% solution in propylene glycol applied to the clipped skin of rabbits was non-irritant. A 1% solution in propylene glycol was found slightly irritant to the rabbit eye one hour after instillation without rinsing. The effect was reversible within 24 hours.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Dangerous Substance Directive (67/548/EEC)

The available studies are considered reliable and suitable for classification purposes under 67/548/EEC. As a result the substance is not considered to be classified as irritating for skin or eyes under Directive 67/548/EEC, as amended for the 28th time in Directive 2001/59/EC.

 

Classification, Labelling, and Packaging Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008

The available experimental test data are reliable and suitable for classification purposes under Regulation 1272/2008. As a result the substance is not considered to be classified for irritation under Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
