Directorates and units

Directorate B – Prioritisation and Integration

Unit B1 - Chemistry

The Chemistry Unit manages the assessment of substance identification information and gives advice on chemistry for all of the Agency's processes under the REACH, CLP, PIC, persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and Biocidal Products regulations.

Unit B2 - Data Management and Analysis

The Data Management and Analysis Unit oversees regulatory data management and the integration with other data submitted to the Agency, e.g. industry data. It develops harmonised formats and tools for collecting data such as the International Uniform Chemical Information Database (IUCLID). The unit also develops tools for data analysis and case management and supports ECHA processes and priority setting.

Unit B3 - Water, Alternative Methods and Prioritisation

The Water, Alternative Methods and Prioritisation Unit manages the current and future risk assessment tasks of ECHA under the Water Directives; supports the development and use of alternative methods to animal testing for the assessment of hazards and risks of chemicals; and coordinates an integrated approach for prioritisation of (groups of) substances across the regulatory frameworks relevant for ECHA’s mandate.

Unit B4 - Industrial Emissions, Screening and Exposure Assessment

The Industrial Emissions, Screening and Exposure Assessment Unit coordinates the identification and selection of substances and groups of substances requiring further regulatory actions, provides expert support on chemical safety assessment (e.g. use and exposure, substances in articles, safety data sheets), and manages the ECHA tasks under the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED).
