Based on the test results obtained in 2010, the 96-hour LC50 of 4-methylpentan-2-one for Zebrafish (Danio rerio) was determined to be higher than 179 mg test item/L based on mean measured concentrations. The no observed effect concentration (NOEC) was determined to be = 179 mg test item/L and the LOEC was determined to be > 179 mg test item/L, both values also based on mean measured concentrations.

MIBK short-term toxicity to

Leuciscus idus melanotus was investigated in a static freshwater system from two separate laboratories. The studies were not conducted under GLP; however, they were conducted according to Deutsche Einheitsverfahren zur Wasser-Abwasser- und Schlammuntersuchung L15: Fischtest (Bestimmung der Wirkung von Wasserinhaltsstoffen auf Fische). The authors reported an LC50 (48-hours) ranging from 672 to 744 mg/L for the two laboratories.

MIBK was evaluated for short-term toxicity in Carassius auratus. The study was conducted according to OECD guideline 203 with the following exceptions: the purity of the compound, time points of observations, negative controls, and method for determination of mortality were not reported. The loading rate was 1.3 g fish/L, and the statistical methods for determination of MTL were not applied. Furthermore MTL was determined for 24 hours only. The authors reported a median tolerance limit (TLm) at 24 hours of 460 mg/L.
