Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
melting point/freezing point
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2010-01-11 to 2010-01-20
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. No deviation affected the quality of the study. The test substance composition is adequately characterised with its purity. Therefore full validation applies.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
OECD Guideline 102 (Melting point / Melting Range)
Version / remarks:
27thJuly 1995
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.1 (Melting / Freezing Temperature)
Version / remarks:
Council Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 dated30 May 2008
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: BS4633: Method for the Determination of Crystallizing Point.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Inspected on 04th and 05th May 2009 / Signed on 1st September 2009
Type of method:
method to determine freezing temperature
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Storage condition of test material: Refrigerator (between 0 and 10°C under nitrogen)
Key result
Melting / freezing pt.:
< -20 °C

(detailed results and graphes are available in the study report)

The test material changes in appearance during cooling. At ca 269 K, the test material becomes viscous and at ca 266 K it becomes trouble.

Conclusions:
No further testing is required.
Executive summary:

The freezing point of the test substance was measured under GLP according to BS4633 method (listed in OECD 102 / EU A1 guideline).

An aliquot was placed in a cooling bath, stirred, and the temperature was recorded at regular intervals. Two runs were performed.

No crystallisation of the test material was observed down to a temperature of 250 K (-23°C).

Description of key information

Freezing point (exp.) < -20 °C.

No further testing is required.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

A fully reliable study, conducted according to a recognized OECD/EC method and under GLP, is available. Therefore, it is considered as a key study. As no crystallisation was observed down to -20°C, the result is expressed as a limit value, and cannot be retained as key data.
