Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flash point of flammable liquids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
04 - 07 November 2013
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Remarks:
The study was conducted according to an internationally recognised method, and under GLP. No deviation was reported. The substance is adequately characterised. Therefore full validation applies.
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.9 (Flash-Point)
Version / remarks:
Regulation (EC) No 440/2008
Deviations:
no
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
ISO 3679 (Determination of flash point - Rapid equilibrium closed cup method)
Version / remarks:
1983
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
ASTM D3278 (Standard test methods for flash point of liquids by small scale closed-cup apparatus)
Version / remarks:
1996
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Not applicable
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Remarks:
Swiss GLP compliance programme (inspected on November 15 and 16, 2011/ signed on May 01, 2012)
Type of method:
equilibrium method closed cup
Flash point apparatus:
other: Rapid Flash Tester RT-1

Specific details on test material used for the study:
STORAGE CONDITIONS OF TEST MATERIAL
Refrigerator (between 0 and 10 °C under nitrogen)
Flash point:
134 °C
Atm. press.:
97.5 kPa
Key result
Flash point:
135 °C
Atm. press.:
101.325 kPa

Preliminary determination: Flash at 134°C

Determination 1 (fresh sample): Flash at 134°C

Determination 2 (fresh sample): Flash at 134°C

Atmospheric pressure: 97.5 kPa

Corrected flash point: 134.88 °C

The final value is rounded to 147°C, with an accuracy of ± 2°C.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Remarks:
GHS and EU-CLP criteria not met
Conclusions:
The flash point of the test substance is above the classification thresholds of 60°C (CLP criteria) or 93°C (GHS criteria). Therefore the test substance is NOT classified as a flammable liquid.
Executive summary:

The flash point of the test substance was determined under GLP according to ISO 3679 (listed in EU A.9 guideline), using a closed cup equilibrium method.

Both duplicate determinations gave a FP of 134°C, under atmospheric pressure of 97.5 kPa. The measured value was then corrected to normal atmP.

The normal flash point of the test substance has been determined to be 135 ± 2 °C.

Description of key information

The substance is NOT classified as a flammable liquid neither according to CLP Regulation criteria, nor to UN GHS.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flash point at 101 325 Pa:
135 °C

Additional information

A fully reliable experimental study, conducted according to a recognized EU/ISO guideline (equilibrium closed cup method) and under GLP, is available. It is considered as a key study, and the result is retained as key data.

This study is relevant for the classification regarding flammable properties. (see IU Section 4.13 endpoint summary for justification of non-classification)
