Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Detailed results:

Replicate sample weight (mg) Onset of effect (°C) Range of effect (°C) Atmospheric pressure (hPa)
1 18.19 -21.62 -40 to 10 (endo) 1003.8
2 16.69 -22.26 -40 to 20 (endo) 1001.4

As the onset temperatures in both tests deviate by less than 0.5 K from their mean value of -21.94 °C, the test item has a melting point of -22 °C.

Observations:

During the cooling phase, an exothermal effect in the temperature range of -22 to -23 °C was observed, which can be assigned to the freezing of the test item. During the heating phase a broad endothermic effect (double peak) was observed in the temperature range of -40 to 20 °C, which can be assigned to the melting of the test item.

Additional test:

Due to the broad melting peak, the melting of the test item was verified. 3.8 g of the test item in a test tube were cooled down with liquid nitrogen to approx. -38 °C. In the temperature range of approx. -38 to -30 °C the test item was solid. The appearance of the test item during warming up: at approx. -20 °C very viscous, at -18 °C partly liquid. Therefore the melting point in the DSC-measurement was confirmed.

Conclusions:
The melting point of the test item was found to be -22°C at 1001 hPa.
Executive summary:

The melting point of the test item was determined by differential scanning calorimetry according to OECD 102. The test item showed a first endothermic signal (melting point) in the temperature range -40 to 20°C and a second endothermic signal, corresponding to boiling point, in the temperature range of 160 -320°C. The melting point corrected to the standard pressure was found to be -22°C.

Description of key information

For this endpoint, one study is available in which the melting point is determined according to OECD 102. The melting point of the test item was found to be -22°C at 1001 hPa.
