Fatty acids, C16-18, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS-No. 85116-93-4) is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria.

Two studies, investigating the ready biodegradability, were used as read across for Fatty acids, C16-18, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS-No. 85116-93-4). The test substances in these studies are structurally and composition related to Fatty acids, C16-18, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS-No. 85116-93-4). In the first study (Desmares-Koopmans, 1997) the biodegradation of Pentaerythritol tetraoleate (CAS-No. 19321-40-5) was tested in a CO2 Evolution Test according to OECD 301B using domestic activated sludge as inoculum. At test termination after 28 days the substance was degraded > 60% and the 10 -day-window was fulfilled. Thus, the read across substance is readily biodegradable according to OECD criteria. In the second study (Kuester and Wierich, 2000) the biodegradation of 2,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-1,3-propanediyl dioleate (CAS-No. 25151 -96 -6) was tested in a Bodis-Test according to ISO 10708 using sewage effluent as inoculum. At test termination after 28 days the substance was degraded > 60% and the 14 -day-window was reached. Therefore, this substance is readily biodegradable according to ISO criteria. A conclusion by analogue approach has been applied. Based on the analogy it can be concluded that Fatty acids, C16-18, esters with pentaerythritol (CAS-No.85116-93-4) is also readily biodegradable.
