Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Study results are available for flammability (EU method A.10) and for pyrophoricity. Waiving applies for flammability in contact with water. The test item sodium sulfide, (commercial form, type ca. 60 %) could not be ignited with a flame. It is not a highly flammable solid and it has no pyrophoric properties in the sense of the European Commission Regulation (EC) No. 440/2008, Method A.13. /UN test N.2. Furthermore, based on its chemical behaviour, sodium sulfide could be regarded as not flammable in contact with water.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
non flammable

Additional information

The test data (GLP, OECD guideline conform) is reliable without restrictions.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test item Sodium sulfide, (commercial form, type ca. 60 %) could not be ignited with a flame. The test item is not a flammable solid or a pyrophoric solid in the sense of Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008 (CLP Regulation). Furthermore, based on its chemical behaviour, sodium sulfide could be regarded as not flammable in contact with water. Thus, according to the requirements of Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008, sodium sulfide should not be classified as flammable solid, pyrophoric solid or substance which in contact with water emits flammable gases.
