Description of key information

Vinyl neononanoate was assessed for eue irritation potential by an U.S.E.P.A. O.T.S. Acute Eye Irritation Testing Guideline study with GLP compliance. The skin irritation potential of vinyl neononanoate was evaluated by both a U.S.E.P.A. O.T.S. and O.E.C.D. Testing Guideline studies conducted with GLP compliance. The U.S.E.P.A. O.T.S. Testing Guideline study applied a more severe occlusice treatment method than did the O.E.C.D. 404 protocol.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Skin irritation / corrosion

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Eye irritation

Endpoint conclusion
Endpoint conclusion:
adverse effect observed (irritating)

Additional information

Vinyl neononanoate was only slightly irritating to the rabbit eye. Under the conditions of the O.E.C.D. 404 Skin Irritation/Corrosion Testing Guideline study applying semi-occlusive exposure, vinyl neononanoate was only slightly irritating to rabbit skin.

Effects on skin irritation/corrosion: slightly irritating

Effects on eye irritation: slightly irritating

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the outcome of GLP Testing Guideline studies vinyl neononanoate does require Classification and Labeling for either Eye or Skin irritation.
