Additional information

Sodium chloride is a normal constituent of bodily fluids for mammals, and thus is absorbed and distributed extensively and freely within the mammalian body. Metabolism is regulated for these the inorganic ions mainly through excretory processes. Sodium chloride excretion is modulated by the kidneys. Excess oral intake of sodium chloride has been associated with the development of hypertension, but this generally occurs when a large excess intake causes the normal metabolic processes to be overwhelmed.
