Di-iron trioxide is a major component of iron sinter so the density of iron sinter will be similar to but slightly less than that of pure di-iron trioxide. The density of pure di-iron trioxide is 5.25 g/cm³ therefore one can infer that the density of iron sinter will be approximately 5 g/cm³.

Conclusions:
Based on read-across from reference data for di-iron trioxide (density 5.25 g/cm³) the density of iron sinter is estimated to be approximately 5 g/cm³.

Calculations were performed to estimate the density of iron sinter based on the phase analysis of 8 sinter samples and the densities of the individual phases present in the samples. The calculations afforded an average density for sinter of 4.8 g/cm³ (range 4.3 - 5.0 g/cm³).

Conclusions:
The density of iron sinter was calculated on the basis of the phase analysis of iron sinters and the densities of the individual phases present in the sinter. Based on the calculations it is estimated that the density of iron sinter is approximately 4.8 g/cm³

In addition to di-iron trioxide(Fe2O3), tri-iron tetroxide (Fe3O4) is a major component of iron sinter so the density of iron sinter. Di-iron trioxide and tri-iron tetraoxide have similar densities, 5.25 and 5.17 g/cm³ respectively, and therefore these phases will determine to a major extent the density of iron sinter. The density of iron sinter may be estimated therefore by read-across from those of pure di-iron trioxide and tri-iron tetraoxide.

Conclusions:
Based on read-across from reference data for di-iron trioxide (5.25 g/cm³) and tri-iron tetraoxide (5.17 g/cm³) the density of iron sinter is estimated to be approximately 5 g/cm³.

Description of key information

Based on calculations based on phase analysis data using X-ray diffraction and reference data on the densities of the phases present in the material, the density of iron sinter was estimated to be 4.8 g/cm³.

The density of iron sinter was also inferred by read-across of data from iron oxides, which indicated that the density of iron sinter was approximately 5 g/cm³.

Additional information

The density of iron sinter was determined by calculation based on the phase analysis of the material and reference data on the densities of the constituent phases. Based on these calculation the density of iron sinter is estimated to be 4.8 g/cm³. The main constituents of iron sinter are the oxides di-iron trioxide (Fe2O3) and tri-iron tetroxide (Fe3O4) and the densities of these phases, which are 5.25 and 5.17 g/cm³ respectively, will determine to a major extent the overall density of iron sinter. Therefore, the approximate density of iron sinter may be inferred by read-across of density data for the iron oxides affording an approximate value of 5 g/cm³, which is in good agreement with the calculated value.
