Description of key information

After oral application of the test substance the LD50 was above 5110 mg/kg bw for male and female rats. Death occured after 3 hours of observation in females of the high dose group. Intoxication was characterized by hypokinesia, clonic convulsions, decrease of muscle tone, and loss of righting reflexes. At necropsy in individual male animals the testes appeared reduced in size. Microscopical examination of the testes and epididymides revealed a focal and/or diffuse atrophy of the seminiferous epithelium in the testes and a reduction of spermatosoma in the epididymides. In a corresponding special study, these effects were not confirmed as treatment related.
