Additional information

At present, it is not expected that coconut shell charcoal becomes systemically available at significant amounts. The Particle Size Distribution has been determined using a standard sieve analysis. The particles were found to be large in size, with a mean particle diameter (D(50)) equalling 5.25 mm and an effective size (D10) of 3.52 mm.

For the Read-Across substance charcoal smaller particles could be found: In the granulometry studies performed with three representative charcoal samples only a minor fraction was inhalable (particle sizes ≤ 100 µm) and more importantly only a negligible fraction was respirable (particle sizes ≤ 2 µm). In addition, there is no evidence for a significant translocation of even smaller carbonaceous particles (35 nm) to the systemic circulation upon inhalation (Wiebert et al. 2006).
