Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Sulfolane did not inhibit microbial degradation of the reference substance at the test concentration of 100 mg/l.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
100 mg/L

Additional information

In accordance with ECHA Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.7b: Endpoint specific guidance, microbial toxicity of a substance can be inferred from biodegradation studies, if the substance does not inhibit the degradation of the positive control. Sulfolane was not shown to be readily biodegradable according to the standard guideline OPECD 301 C but did not inhibit the degradation of the reference substance, Aniline. The NOEC for microorganisms can therefore be determined to be the sulfolane test concentration used in this study of 100 mg/l
