First-aid measures

Description of first aid measures

Immediately remove contaminated clothing. If the patient is likely to become unconscious, place and transport in stable sideways position (recovery position). If not breathing, give artificial respiration. First aid personnel should pay attention to their own safety.

If inhaled:

Keep patient calm, remove to fresh air, seek medical attention. Immediately administer a corticosteroid from a controlled/metered dose inhaler.

On skin contact:

Immediately wash thoroughly with plenty of water, apply sterile dressings, consult a skin specialist.

On contact with eyes:

Immediately wash affected eyes for at least 15 minutes under running water with eyelids held open, consult an eye specialist.

On ingestion:

Do not induce vomiting. Immediately rinse mouth and then drink 200-300 ml of water, seek medical attention.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed

Symptoms: Information, i.e. additional information on symptoms and effects may be included in the GHS labeling phrases available in Section 2 of the safety data sheet and in the Toxicological assessments available in Section 11 of the safety data sheet.

Indication of any immediate medical attention and special treatment needed

Treatment: Treat according to symptoms (decontamination, vital functions), no known specific antidote. Pulmonary odema prophylaxis. Medical monitoring for at least 24 hours.

The substances/groups of substances mentioned can be released in case of fire. Vapours may form explosive mixture with air. Pressure inside container is increased when heated, and may cause explosion.

Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and chemical-protective clothing.

Further information:

Cool endangered containers with water-spray. Evacuate area of all unnecessary personnel. Keep people away and stay on the upwind side. Do not allow to enter drains or waterways. Fire debris must be disposed of in accordance with offical regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures

Use personal protective clothing. Information regarding personal protective measures, see section "exposure controls/personal protection". Avoid all sources of ignition: heat, sparks, open flame. Ensure adequate ventilation. Breathing protection required. Avoid inhalation. Keep unprotected persons away. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing.

Environmental precautions

Do not discharge into drains/surface waters/groundwater.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

For large amounts: Dike spillage. Pump off product.

For residues: Pick up with suitable absorbent material (e.g. sand, sawdust, general-purpose binder, kieselguhr).

Avoid sources of ignition. Use spark-proof tools and explosion-proof equipment. Wear suitable protective equipment. Cleaning operations should be carried out only while wearing breathing apparatus. Collect waste in suitable containers, which can be labeled and sealed. Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with regulations.

Handling and storage

Precautions for safe handling

Ensure thorough ventilation of stores and work areas. Product should be worked up in closed equipment as far as possible. Use only acid resistant equipment. Protect against moisture. Wear suitable protective clothing and gloves.

Protection against fire and explosion:

Vapours may form explosive mixture with air. Prevent electrostatic charge - sources of ignition should be kept well clear - fire extinguishers should be kept handy. Empty containers may contain flammable residue.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities

Further information on storage conditions: Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Keep away from sources of ignition - No smoking. Protect against moisture. Protect against heat. Storage at a proportionate temperature is required, to avoid 'breathing' of containers.

Respiratory protection:

Supplementary note: The specifications are based on tests, literature data and information of glove manufacturers or are derived from similar substances by analogy. Due to many conditions (e.g. temperature) it must be considered, that the practical usage of a chemical-protective glove in practice may be much shorter than the permeation time determined through testing.

General safety and hygiene measures

Handle in accordance with good industrial hygiene and safety practice. Avoid contact with the skin, eyes and clothing. Do not breathe vapour/spray. The substance was registered as a transported isolated intermediate. The manufacturer/importer has received the confirmation by the user that the substance is used under strictly controlled conditions in accordance with art. 18 of the REACH regulation (EC) No 1907/2006. When using, do not eat, drink or smoke. Hands and/or face should be washed before breaks and at the end of the shift. Gloves must be inspected regularly and prior to each use.  Replace if necessary (e.g. pinhole leaks). Take off immediately all contaminated clothing. Wash contaminated clothing before reuse. Store work clothing separately.

Possibility of hazardous reactions

Evolution of corrosive gases/vapours. Reacts with water and basic components to generate heat. On contact with water, gaseous decomposition products are formed, which cause build-up of pressure in tightly closed containers. Reacts with alkalies and metals. Reacts with alcohols, amines, aqueous acids and alkalies. Reacts with water and moisture, with formation of hydrogen chloride. Partly very violent reactions with bases and numerous organic classes of substances such as alcohols and amines. Addition of water leads to increase in temperature. Vapours may form ignitable mixture with air. Substance/product is highly reactive. In damp air hydrochloric acid formation is possible. Violent reactions with water and/or alcohols, with formation of hydrochloric acid. Violent and explosive reaction with water.

Waste treatment methods

Incinerate in suitable incineration plant, observing local authority regulations.
