An exothermic effect of the test item by self-heating was observed at an oven temperature of 142°C. During this effect the test item reached a temperature of 152°C. According to the guideline, the test is positive when the sample temperature exceeds the oven temperature by 60°C during the 24 hour testing time. Based on this, the result is considered negative and it demonstrated that the test item is “not a self-heating substance”.

After the experiment, the test item had turned into a darker pink residue. The change of colour might be due to decomposition/reaction.

Executive summary:

In a GLP study according to UN Test N.4, a negative result was obtained using a 10 cm sample cube at 140°C. From this it was concluded that C.I. Pigment Red 81:2 is not a self-heating substance.
