Description of key information

Reactive Red 024:1 is a red-brown powder. The melting point and boiling point was identified to be greater than 330 °C. Average relative density of test item at 20 °C was found to be 1.6661 g/cm³. The median particle size was 119.378 µm. The partition co-efficient n-octanol/water of Reactive Red 024:1 was determined to be Pow = 3.02 x 10-4, Log Pow = -3.52. The water solubility at 20 °C was determined to (without correction for the purity): = 434 g/l. The surface tension was determined to be 62.889mN/m at 20 °C. The auto-ignition temperature of test item cannot be determined, as no auto-ignition occurred up to 550 °C. No ignition was observed throughout the course of a flammability study, hence test material is considered as not highly flammable. The analysis of the chemical structure reveals no alerts for explosive properties for Reactive Red 24:1. The calculated chemical oxygen balance is above the trigger value of -200, but the determination of the exothermic decomposition energy demonstrated an energy release below the critical value of 500 J/g. Therefore, the substance is considered to be non-explosive according to Directive 67/548/EEC and Regulation (EC) 1272/2008 and no further testing are required. In accordance with Column 2 of REACH Annex VII, this study does not need to be conducted as this substance is incapable of reacting exothermically with combustible materials on the basis of its chemical structure.
