Endpoint:
oxidising solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
2015
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.17 (Oxidising Properties (Solids))
Deviations:
yes
Remarks:
Based on earlier studies the test substance was not dried. The reason is that the test substance contents high hydrophilic sulfonate salts that rapidly bind air humidity. This deviation have no negative impact on the study results.
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Contact with:
powdered cellulose
Duration of test (contact time):
300 s
Key result
Sample tested:
test mixture as specified
Remarks:
20 % w/w sample with cellulose
Parameter:
maximum burning rate
Result:
0.097 mm/s
Sample tested:
reference mixture as specified
Remarks:
10 % w/w barium nitrate with cellulose
Parameter:
maximum burning rate
Result:
0.813 mm/s

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
On basis of the result obtained from trial test, it is obvious that the maximum burning rate of the tested mixture is lower than maximum burning rate of the reference mixture of cellulose and barium nitrate. Thus test substance, Direct Black 51, should not be considered as a substance with oxidizing properties.
Executive summary:

The procedure was performed according to the Method A.17 Oxidizing properties (Solids), Council Regulation (EC) No.440/2008, published in O.J. L 142, 2008.

On basis of the result obtained from trial test, it is obvious that the maximum burning rate of the tested mixture is lower than maximum burning rate of the reference mixture of cellulose and barium nitrate. Thus test substance, Direct Black 51, should not be considered as a substance with oxidizing properties.
