Registration Dossier

Data platform availability banner - registered substances factsheets

Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

First-aid measures

Note to physician: May cause methemoglobinemia through skin, lung or GI tract absoption.
Inhalation: Remove patient immediately from source of exposure. Provide rest warmth and fresh air. If respiratory problems, artificial respiration/oxygen. Get medical attention.
Ingestion: Rinse mouth thoroughly. Do not give patient anything to drink if they are unconscious. Get medical attention immediately.
Skin contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing. Wash the skin immediately with soap and water. Get medical attention.
Eye contact: Promptly wash eyes with plenty of water while lifting the eye lids. Continue to rinse for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

EXTINGUISHING MEDIA
Water spray.

SPECIAL FIRE FIGHTING PROCEDURES
Use water spray to reduce vapours. Do not scatter spilled material with more water than needed to fight the fire. Cool
containers/tanks with water spray. Move container from fire area if it can be done without risk.

UNUSUAL FIRE & EXPLOSION HAZARDS
May explode in a fire. May develop highly toxic or corrosive fumes if heated. May form explosive or toxic mixtures with air.
May explode when heated or when exposed to flames or sparks. May travel considerable distance to source of ignition and
flash back. Vapour explosion and poison hazard indoors, outdoors and in sewers.

PROTECTIVE MEASURES IN FIRE
Self contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing must be worn in case of fire.

Accidental release measures

PERSONAL PRECAUTIONS
Avoid inhalation of vapours and contact with skin and eyes. Do not smoke, use naked flames or other sources of ignition.

ENVIRONMENTAL PRECAUTIONS
Do not allow ANY environmental contamination.

SPILL CLEAN UP METHODS
Ventilate well, stop flow of gas or liquid if possible. Remove ignition sources. Do not allow chemical to enter confined
spaces such as sewers due to explosion risk. Sewers designed to preclude formation of explosive concentrations of vapour
may be permitted. Stop leak if possible without risk. DO NOT touch spilled material! Avoid contact with skin or inhalation of
spillage, dust or vapour. Collect with absorbent, non-combustible material into suitable containers. Containers with
collected spillage must be properly labelled with correct contents and hazard symbol. Do not use sawdust or other
combustible material. Neutralise with calcium hypochlorite. Build dikes to contain flow. Keep out of water supply and
sewers. Runoff or release to sewer, waterway or ground is forbidden.

Handling and storage

USAGE PRECAUTIONS
Keep away from heat, sparks and open flame. Avoid spilling, skin and eye contact. Ventilate well, avoid breathing
vapours. Use approved respirator if air contamination is above accepted level. Avoid acids, moisture, and combustible
materials. Wear full protective clothing for prolonged exposure and/or high concentrations.

STORAGE PRECAUTIONS
Flammable/combustible - Keep away from oxidisers, heat and flames. Store in tightly closed original container in a dry,
cool and well-ventilated place. Protect from light, including direct sunrays.

Exposure controls / personal protection

Ingredient comments: WEL - Workplace Exposure Limits based on EH40 data for hydrazine
Provide adequate general and local exhaust ventilation.
Protective equipment: Gloves: Outer layer: MAPA NEOTEX 341 Neoprene gloves (2231 AJKL X1XXX Cat 3) Inter glove: Nitrile disposal glove

The Coveralls- Trellchem splash 600 – they are Certified to EN466.
The suit provides protection against liquid splashing in areas of minimal risk. The suit is made of a polyamide fabric, which is coated on both sides with PVC. Gloves are interlocked into suit using liquid tight rings.
The Coveralls - Du pont Proshield 10– they are Certified to EN368 made from a polypropylene nonwoven.

Lansdowne operates a closed system for handling hydrazine nitrate, however, should an unforeseen exposure to hydrazine nitrate occur, the following breathing apparatus is to be worn; this is available at all times and is kept on standby during road tanker off-loading. This is a a SABRE PANASEEAL visor with a filter harness connected to electrical air compressor with filters (FACTAIR BA9E) applicable for supplying two operators on a 30 metre line or one operator on a 90 metre line. Each operator has their own mask and face fit test has been carried out to ensure they conform to HSE282/28 and HSG53. In addition to this there are also self-contained BA on standby which also conform to HSE282/28 and HSG53.
Approved safety glasses

Stability and reactivity

Stability: Stable under normal temperature conditions and reccommended use.
Conditions to avoid: Evaporates easily in air.
Hazardous Polymerisation: Will not occur
Materials to Avoid: Strong Oxidising Sunstances
Hazardous decomposition products: Ammonia or amines, oxides of Nitrogen

Disposal considerations

Dispose of waste and residues in accordance with local authority requirements.
