Description of key information

Flammability [octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane]: flammable

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
flammable

Additional information

The flammability of liquids is assessed by reference to the flash point. There is no indication on the basis of structure and experience in handling and the use that the substance is flammable in contact with air or water. Therefore, in accordance with Section 2 of REACH Annex XI, the study does not need to be conducted.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Flash point values of 51°C (closed cup), 55°C (closed cup) and 61°C (open cup) have been reported in sources which are considered reliable.

Flash points ≤55°C indicates that a classification of R10 Flammable should apply under Directive 67/548/EEC.

Flash points of ≤60°C indicates that a classification of Flam. Liq. 3, H226 Flammable liquid and vapour should apply under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008.
