In the available key study (2015) on short-term toxicity of tetramethylthiuram disulfide (CAS No. 137-26-8) towards aquatic invertebrates, neonates of Daphnia magna were exposed for 48 hours under flow-through conditions to five test item concentrations ranging from 11 to 260 µg Thiram technical/L (mean measured). The test was performed according to OECD guideline 202 (GLP). Tetramethylthiuram disulfide (CAS No. 137-26-8) water concentrations were analyzed at 0, 24, and 48 h of exposure. Mean measured concentrations represented 85, 71, 78, 82 and 86 % of nominal concentrations. Therefore, the effect values were based on mean measured concentrations. The EC50 (48 h) value was determined to be 139 µg a.i./L (mean measured). The NOEC (48 h) value based on mobility was determined to be 50 µg a.i./L (mean measured).

 

Furthermore, two supporting, static guideline (OECD 202, GLP) studies on short-term toxicity of tetramethylthiuram disulfide (CAS No. 137-26-8) to Daphnia magna are available. The first supporting study (2008) was conducted with the product Thiram 80 WG. After 48 hours of exposure to this product, concentration dependent effects on mobility were observed resulting in a NOEC (48 h) value of 0.14 mg a.i./L (measured initial) and an EC50 (48 h) of 0.38 mg a.i./L (both measured initial). Results from the second supporting study (1994), are less reliable due to low recovery rates already at test initiation (25-93%). The recoveries at study termination were even lower and ranged between n.d. and 43%. The EC50 value can thus not be calculated based on measured data. However, the calculated nominal EC50 (48 h) value was in the same range as those of the key and supporting study mentioned above and therefore these data were considered acceptable as supporting information.

 

Two further studies on the short-term toxicity of tetramethylthiuram disulfide (CAS No. 137-26-8) to aquatic invertebrates are available but possess a minor reliability (RL3 and RL4) and were therefore disregarded.
