Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

A number of studies have been carried out to assess the toxicity of 2 -butoxyethanol to micro-organism using multiple species of protozoa and bacteria in fresh water. These studies that are reliable indicate that the substance may be slightly toxic to micro-organisms but all of species except one exhibited very similar sensitivity (with Entosiphon showing very low toxicity). The weight of evidence suggested that the substance is generally of low toxicity. Ciliated protozoa are acceptable as surrogates to predict the toxicity in a WWTP; Uronema meet this criteria (but not Entosiphon). The Uronema figure is therefore selected as the key parameter from which to predict the hazard to degradation of substances in waste water treatment plants.
