Directorate C - Hazard Assessment

Unit C1 - Dossier Evaluation I

The Dossier Evaluation I Unit manages the dossier evaluation processes, namely compliance checks of registration dossiers. It coordinates the decision making for dossier evaluation, manages the interface with the Member State competent authorities (MSCA), and provides scientific support to the Member States Committee (MSC). The unit also provides expert support on scientific issues, e.g., read-across, genotoxicity and aquatic toxicity.

Unit C2 - Dossier Evaluation II

The Dossier Evaluation II Unit manages the dossier evaluation processes, namely compliance checks of registration dossiers and examinations of testing proposals. The unit examines information obtained under dossier evaluation, provides coordination on IT developments to support evaluation processes, as well as expert support and coordination on scientific issues, including test methods and read-across.

The unit coordinates the scientific, technical, and administrative support to the Member States Committee (MSC).

Unit C3 – Hazard Assessment and Scientific Coordination

The Hazard Assessment and Scientific Coordination Unit coordinates the substance evaluations undertaken by Member State competent authorities as well as the establishment of the Community rolling action plan (CoRAP). It coordinates the three expert groups (PBT, endocrine disruptor and nanomaterials) that support evaluation and hazard identification. It also coordinates decision making and agreement seeking of the SVHC identification process (Candidate list) and manages the interface with the Member State competent authorities and Member State Committee. Other areas of work include the coordination of the POPs related activities in ECHA, as well as the activities related to nanomaterials for the Directorate.

The unit coordinates the PARC-related work for ECHA as well as the regulatory science strategy implementation for the Directorate.

The unit is also responsible for supporting the assessment of occupational exposure limits (OELs) under a service level agreement with the Commission. The unit works with the Agency's Committee for Risk assessment (RAC), its Chair and secretariat to develop OEL opinions.

Unit C4 - Hazard Classification

The Hazard Classification Unit managers tasks under the CLP Regulation and supports the opinion-making process for proposals for harmonising the classification and labelling (CLH) of hazardous substances, the development of CLH dossiers via hazard screening and collaboration with Member States.

The unit works closely with the Committee for Risk assessment (RAC), its Chair and secretariat to develop CLH opinions.
