Orally administered test substance will hydrolyse in stomach to sorbitol
and 3,4-dimethylbenzaldehyde. In humans, sorbitol is slowly absorbed. At
least 75 % is metabolised to carbon dioxide and less than 3 % excreted
in urine. In rats sorbitol can also be oxidized to glucose.
3,4-dimethylbenzaldehyde are expected to be oxidized to aromatic acid,
which will be conjucated with glycine and excreted rapidly to urine.
Inhaled materials will behave like inert particulates, and are cleared
from the lungs by mucociliary system.
