The Adsorption / desorption properties the UVCB “Condensation Product of N-C12-C18-Alkylpropane-1,3-Diamine, N-(3-Aminopropyl)-N’-C12-C18-Alkylpropane-1,3-Diamine and Formic Acid

” (CAS 1229648-98-9 or 92797-22-3, EC 296-557-4) were estimated according to the HPLC method (Sydney 2010). The GLP study is compliant to the TGD EU C.19 and OECD 121 and considered valid and conclusive.

The test item was in duplicate at pH 4 and 10 compared with the reference standards acetanilide, nitrobenzene, naphthalene, 2-methylnaphthalene, anthracene, and DDT - selected from the recommended list of compounds and representing known log10 Koc values of 1.3, 2.4, 2.8, 3.9, 4.4, and 5.6.

On one hand it was evident that for both pH levels the retention times of a large proportion of the components of the test substance were greater than that of the longest retained standard, DDT, under the test conditions (the standards eluted in order of their known log10 Koc values), whilst most other components eluted after the second longest retained standard, anthracene (log10 Koc = 4.4). A value of log10 Koc of greater than 4.4 was thus obtained, which corresponds to a Koc of 25’119.

On the other hand the elution of the test item components started immediately after the lowest standard reference, Acetanilide (log10 Koc = 1.3, Koc = 20).

In conclusion the majority of components of the test item have to be considered as “immobile” or “non-mobile” in soils or sediments according to the scales of McCall et al (1981, criterion Koc > 5000) or Hollis (1991, criterion Koc > 4000) respectively. Nonetheless the UVCB constituents spread the whole range up to “very mobile” (0 < Koc < 50) or “mobile” (15 < Koc < 75) substances.
