Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
appearance / physical state / colour
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
Oct.2014
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
test procedure in accordance with generally accepted scientific standards and described in sufficient detail
Remarks:
Data comes from the results of a specific study on freezing point. No guideline is required according to REACh TGD. The substance is considered to be adequately characterised with its purity. Therefore full validation applies.
Qualifier:
no guideline required
Principles of method if other than guideline:
Observation of substance during freezing experiment.
GLP compliance:
no
Specific details on test material used for the study:
The test substance was melted at 60°C.
Physical state at 20°C and 1013 hPa:
liquid
Remarks:
supercooled without initiation down to 3°C
Key result
Form:
liquid
Colour:
colourless liquid
Substance type:
organic
Executive summary:

When testing the melted substance for freezing, the sample turned solid at ca 37 -38°C if initiation, but remain as supercooled liquid below ambient temperature without initiation.

Description of key information

The substance can exist either as a solid or a supercooled liquid at ambient temperature.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Physical state at 20°C and 1013 hPa:
liquid

Additional information

As experimental test reports provided inconsistent descriptions, mainly as solid, but also paste/gel or liquid, a specific investigation was conducted on freezing from the melted substance. This reliable experiment demonstrated the ability of the substance to remain liquid if no initiation for phase change, but turned solid at ca 37-38°C with initiation. Therefore, the normal state in ambient conditions will be considered to be solid. However, as the product will always be used liquid (melted) the liquid state is retained as key data for purpose of CSA.
