Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

Biodegradation in CO2 evolution test (OECD 301 B; GLP compliant): not readily biodegradable (2.6 % after 28 days)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

The biodegradability of the substance was determined under GLP with non-adapted activated sludge for a period of 28 days according to OECD 301 B. The biodegradation was found to be 2.6 % after 28 days. Hence, the substance is not readily biodegradable under the test conditions. However, the test item had no inhibitory effect on the activity of activated sludge microorganisms at the tested concentration of 20.1 mg/L (biodegradation in toxicity control was ≥ 25 % within 14 days of incubation). Biodegradation of the reference substance sodium benzoate (25.7 mg/L) amounted to 90 % after 14 days.
