Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

No biodegradation was measured in the ready biodegradability test nor in the inherent biodegradability test.

Additional information

Under the conditions of the OECD 301D test, 1,2,4,5,7,8-Hexoxonane, 3,6,9-trimethyl-, 3,6,9-tris(Ethyl and Propyl) derivatives is not readily biodegradable.

In a Zahn-Wellens test (OECD 302B) MEK and MPK were not formed in the tests with Trigonox 501 spiked to mineral salt medium or spiked to mineral salt medium with heat killed activated sludge. This demonstrates that in the Zahn Wellens test the peroxide bonds in Trigonox 501 are not reduced by a chemical reaction. MEK and MPK were however also not measured for Trigonox 501 in the presence of living activated sludge. Trigonox 501 are therefore not removed by alkyl hydroperoxide reductases. The active site of alkyl hydroperoxide reductase most likely cannot accommodate ketone peroxides such as Trigonox 501.

These findings are in agreement with the results of one of the main constituents (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide trimer, CAS 24748 -23 -0), which was tested separately.
