Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

In accordance wiith Annex XI, 1.2 and 1.5 of REACH Regulation 1907/2006, short- and long-term studies on terrestrial arthropods are scientifically not necessary because of the natural abundance of silica and silicates as minerals in soils.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Lethal and sublethal effects of colloidal silica (containing a biocide) on a terrestrial pollinator, Bombus terrestris (Linnaeus) are reported (Mommaerts et al 2011). Because these effects might have been caused by the biocide contained in the test material, no causal relationship with colloidal silica can be inferred from this study.
