In water ethyl methacrylate will be rapidly biodegraded, abiotic degradation by hydrolyses is not of major concern. From the water surface the test substance will evaporate slowly into the air. After exposure to the air ethyl methacrylate will be rapidly degraded by photochemical processes. Based on a log Pow of 1.87, bioaccumulation of ethyl methacrylate is expected to be low to moderate. Due to the low logKoc and the ready biodegradability adsorption to the solid soil phase of ethyl methacrylate is unlikely. Furthermore, in the Mackay Level III model, which additionally takes into account transport and degradation processes. Methyl methacrylate (MMA), when released to air or water, will predominantly remain in the environmental compartment into which it was released (air: 95.9 %; water: 98.0 %).
