Test solutions

Details on test solutions:
PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF TEST SOLUTION
- Controls: medium only
- Evidence of undissolved material: Although OS MENTHOL ESTER is reported tobe insoluble in water the water-accommodated fraction (WAF) of the saturated stock suspension mixture of test item and dilution water was used for testing

Test organisms

Test organisms (species):
Daphnia magna
Details on test organisms:
TEST ORGANISM
- Common name: Daphnia magna (Straus)
- Method of breeding: Culturing and holding of the test species was conducted at the Stantec Labaratory (Guelph, ON), according to the Stantec SOP #230
(Stantec, 2004a). Daphnia cultures were maintained in 1 L polystyrene containers containing 900 mL of Stantec's Iabaratory dilution water (groundwater).
Culture temperature and photoperiod were identical to that of the test system (temperature 20 +- 2°C and a photoperiod of 16 hours light and 8 hours of darkness with a 30-minute transition period). Neonae test organisms were obtained from the stock cultures following the daily transfer of adult daphnids, to ensure that test organisms were of a uniform age, and less than 24 hours old.
- Feeding during test
- Foodtype: Two to four-week old adult daphnids were transferred to fresh water daily, andfed a 3:1 mixture of Selenastrum capricomutum and Chlorella
fusca (green algae) at a rate of 10 mUL (density of 3.5 X 107 cellslmL).
- Amount: The algal diet was supplemented with a suspension of YCT (yeast, Cerophyll, and commercial traut pellets ), fed daily at a rate of 5 mUL.
- Frequency: daily
