Guidance on Safe Use

First-aid measures

Eye contact:

Immediately wash eyes with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Seek medical advice if irritation develops and persists.

Skin contact:

Wash affected skin area with plenty of water and soap for at least 15 minutes thoroughly while removing contaminated clothing and shoes. Seek medical advice if irritation develops and persists.

Ingestion:

Seek medical advice if the victim feels unwell. Wash out mouth with plenty of water and give 2-4 cupfuls of water or milk to drink. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person.

Inhalation:

Remove the victim from exposure into fresh air immediately if adverse effects (e.g. dizziness, drowsiness or respiratory irritation) occur. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Seek medical advice if cough or other symptoms appear. Do not use mouth-to-mouth respiration. Seek medical advice immediately when vapors are intensively inhaled.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media: Foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide, water mist.

Required special protective equipment for fire-fighters:

In the event of fire, wear a self-contained breathing apparatus and a chemical protective suit.

Do not allow extinguishing water to reach ground water or sewage system. Contaminated extinguishing water has to be disposed of in accordance with local regulations.

If area is heavily exposed to fire and if conditions permit, let fire burn itself out since water may increase the area contaminated. Cool containers/tanks/drums with spray water. Remove them to safety.

Accidental release measures

Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. Use suitable protective equipment.

Environmental precautions:

Prevent the material from entering surface water or sanitary sewer system. Do not discharge directly to a water source. If accidental spillage or washings enter drains or watercourses contact local Environment Agency.

Methods for cleaning:

Sweep up into suitable containers for recovery or disposal. Pick up with suitable absorbent material (sand, earth, kieselguhr, acid binder, universal binder, sawdust, soda ash, vermiculite, slaked lime). Sweep up absorbed substance, place in a solid waste container for later disposal. Residual trace can be wiped away.

Hand protection: Use neoprene or butyl rubber gloves.

Eye protection: Safety glasses with side-shields conforming to EN166.

Skin and body protection: Protective suit, apron and boots.

Hygiene measures:

Wash hands, forearms and face thoroughly after handling chemical products, before eating, smoking and using the lavatory and at the end of the working period. Appropriate techniques should be used to remove potentially contaminated clothing. Wash contaminated clothing before reusing.

Disposal considerations

Waste from residues:

In accordance with local and national regulations. Disposed by landfill or incineration in a suitable incineration plant holding a permit delivered by the competent authorities. Do not allow material to contaminate ground water system. Do not contaminate surface water.

Containers should be cleaned by appropriate method and then re-used or disposed by landfill or incineration as appropriate, in accordance with local and national regulations. Do not remove label until container is thoroughly cleaned.
