Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The toxicity of 1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-yl)ethyl)sulfate towards algae Desmodesmus subspicatus was assesd during 72 hours according OECD guideline 201 and EU method C.3. The 72 hour EC50 values for the test item were 0.136 mg/L EbC50 and > 1.58 mg/L for the ErC50 based on the mean of analytically determined concentrations. The 72 hour NOEC values for the test item were 0.0402 mg/L NOECb and 0.0772 mg/L for theNOECr based on the mean of analytically determined concentrations.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for freshwater algae:
1.58 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
0.077 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity of 1-((2-Butyloctyloxymethyl)-2-(3,4-dihydro-isoquinolinium-2-yl)ethyl)sulfate towards algae Desmodesmus subspicatus was assesd during 72 hours according OECD guideline 201 and EU method C.3.

The test concentrations of 0, 1.58, 0.803, 0.367, 0.167, 0.0772, 0.0402 mg/L (mean mesured analytical concentrations) were selected on the basis of the non-GLP range finding part of the study. The raw data of this part are archived together with the raw data of this study. The test was performed in concentrations up to the limit of solubility of the test substance in water. The water solubility of the test substance is 2.5 mg/L (20°C). The initial measured concentrations of the saturated solution was 2.88 mg/L and thus above the water solubility of 2.5 mg/L. During the 72 h testing period a marked decrease of the test concentrations to 0 - 10 % of the initial concentrations was observed. Therefore the results are based on the mean analytically determined concentrations during the exposure period.

The following effect concentrations (mg/L) were obtained based on mean measured concentrations:

Effect on the development of biomass (area under the curve):

EbC10 (72 h) = 0.054 mg/L

EbC50 (72 h) = 0.136 mg/L

EbC90 (72 h) > 1.58 mg/L

Effect on growth rate:

ErC10 (72 h) = 0.096 mg/L

ErC50 (72 h) > 1.58 mg/L

ErC90 (72 h) > 1.58 mg/L

No observed effect concentration (95% significance level)

NOEC (72 h) = 0.0402 mg/L (biomass)

NOEC (72 h) = 0.0772 mg/L (growth rate)

Lowest observed effect concentration (95% significance level)

LOEC (72 h) = 0.0772 mg/L (biomass)

LOEC (72 h) = 0.167 mg/L (growth rate)

Since the analytically determined test concentrations decreased markedly over the exposure period the test results were based on mean measured concentrations.
