Results

Pre-test

The flash point of the test item was estimated at 100.0°C during the pre-test.

Main determination

Several trials were then performed by varying the amount of substance and the starting temperature. Some trials were performed using the same sample as for the previous trial.

It appears that the lowest flash point was observed at 95°C using 4 mL of the substance (trial 7). No flash point was observed using 2 mL until 120°C (start temperature 100°C; trial 10). When a sample of 4 mL is used, flash point is systematically observed. When the substance (4 mL) has just been poured into the apparatus, a flash is observed during the first dipping of the ignitor into the cup. However, if a measurement is performed on a sample which has already flashed (trials 1,2 and 3), the flash is not systematicallyobserved at the same temperature.

Control of the performance of the method:

The reference substance Certified Reference Material (CRM), for which a flash point of 75.5°C has been determined following ISO 34 and ISO 35,was used to check the performance of the method.

A flash point of 76°C was registered for theCertified Reference Material (Batch N° 1162111a)

Conclusion

No flash point was observed between 25.0 °C and 100.0 °C using 2 ml of the substance

The lowest flash point (without correction) was observed at 95.0 °C using 4 ml ofthe substance.
