In accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, Annex VII, Section 7.11, Column 2, testing for explosive properties is not required for vanadium carbide. Vanadium carbide is “inert” in the context of explosivity. It is void of any chemical structures commonly associated with explosive properties, such as metal peroxides, peroxo-acid-anions, azides, and halogen oxides. Further, it is noted that despite long-term industrial use of vanadium carbide, it is not classified for explosive properties according to UN transport regulations. In addition, long-term industrial experience in practical handling of vanadium carbide indicates that it is not explosive.
Justification for classification or non-classification
Vanadium carbide does not need to be classified according to CLP Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 since explosive properties are considered non-relevant based on the lack of functional groups
