Measured data for TBPAAQ and for similar anthraquinone dyes
demonstrate that there is little to no aerobic
biodegradation. However, experimental data indicate that the
primary route of dissipation for anthraquinone dyes is via
anaerobic degradation in aquatic sediments and subsurface
terrestrial soils. Soil surface photolysis has also been
shown to be a significant transformation pathway for
degradation.

Based on these effective routes of degradation, TBPAAQ is
not likely to persist in the environment.
