Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
19.02.2018 - 19.02.2018
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
UN Manual of Tests and Criteria: Test N.1 (Test method for readily combustible solids)
GLP compliance:
no
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
>= 10 - <= 15 s
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

 Preliminary Test

The test item melted and the molten test item started to burn locally after applying the flame. After a short propagation of about 10 mm the local burning extinguished after 10 – 15 s.

Main Test

In the preliminary test the test item melted and showed only a local burning with a propagation of about 10 mm within 10 – 15 s. Thus, the performance of the main test was not necessary.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
Methylhydroquinone is not to be classified as flammable acc. to GHS-criteria.
Executive summary:

The test item Methylhydroquinonemelted and showed only a local burning for 10 – 15 s with short propagation of about 10 mm.

Description of key information

The test item melted and the molten test item started to burn locally after applying the flame. After a short propagation of about 10 mm the local burning extinguished after 10 – 15 s.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Justification for classification or non-classification

The test item does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period.

Therefore, methylhydroquinone is not to be classified as flammable acc. to GHS-criteria.
