Description of key information

Tosylchloramide sodium, trihydrate is a white crystalline solid with a weak chlorine smell at 20ºC and 1013 hPa.

Tosylchloramide sodium, trihydrate has no melting point at atmospheric pressure and decomposes at temperatures of 120 - 165ºC according to the guideline OECD 102 (DSC method).

The substance has no boiling temperature as decomposition occurs before the substance is melted.

The substance has a density 1.4 g/cm3 @ 20ºC according to the guideline OECD 109 (pycnometer method)

The particle size distribution of the substance was determined using ASTM E276 - 57.7% of the particles of Tosylchloramide sodium, trihydrate are <400 µm.

The vapour pressure of substance was calculated to be 1.06*10^-9 Pa @ 25ºC using a QSAR method.

Tosylchloramide sodium, trihydrate has a Partition coefficient: (20ºC) K oct/water = 0.47/8.85 = 0.05. Log Koc/water = -1.30

The watersolubility was determined to be ca. 150 g/L at 25 ºC. The substance is very soluble (>10000 mg/L).

The substance decomposes in fat/organic solvents, as determined using OECD guideline 105.

The substance has a surface tension of 67.23 mN/m according to OECD guideline 115 (ring method).

The Auto -ignition temperature of the substace is 600ºC, but "verpuffing" of the substance occurs at temperatures >= 170ºC (=decomposition temperature).

Tosylchloramide sodium is a non-flammable substance.

The substance is not explosive under conditions of the testing method EC A.14; however, the substance can be ignited by mechanical sparks, hot surfaces, smouldering material and open flames at dust concentrations of 1000 mg/m3.

the substance has no oxidising properties according to the EC method A.17

The substance is stable in cool, dry places for at least 2 years.

The pH value of a 1 % (w/v) solution of the test item Tosylchloramide sodium, trihydrate was determined to be 7.96. - according to the CIPC handbook (vol J.)

The substance has a dissociation constant Ka = 2.5 ± 0.3 * 10^-5 @ 25ºC.
