Description of key information

2,2-di-(tert-amylperoxy) butane is considered as not readily bidoegardable as 0% degradation was achieved after 28 days in a test carried out according to OECD 301F.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Biodegradation in water:
under test conditions no biodegradation observed

Additional information

The study was conducted in accordance with procedures outlined in OECD Guideline 301F (1992) and GLP requirements (Best, 2018). The ready biodegradability of 2,2-di-(tert-amylperoxy) butane was assessed over a 28 days period.

The test was conducted at a nominal loading rate of 50 mg/L. The test item contains 50.2% of isododecane. Therefore 2 additional vessels (inoculum solvent control vessels) were prepared containing inoculated mineral medium with the same concentration of isododecane as present in the test item vessels. Any oxygen consumption that occured in the test item vessels was corrected for any oxygen consumption that occured in the solvent control vessels to calculate the biodegradation.

The peroxyde was not readily biodegradable under the conditions of the test: a mean total of 0% degradation was achieved by Day 28.

The test item was not considered to be inhibitory to the microbial inoculum since the biodegradation observed in the toxicity control bioreactor was not less than 25% occurred within 14 days.

All the validity critera were met.
