Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

CHPTAC is not readily biodegradable according to the available information from screening tests.

Simulation studies on the ultimate degradation in surface water and sediment are not needed as the chemical safety assessment according to Annex I indicates that exposure of the substance to surface water and sediment is not expected.

Additional information

From the two available guideline studies (modified Sturm test (OECD 301B) and STP simulation test (OECD 303A)) it can be concluded that CHPTAC is not readily biodegradable.

In other, non-standard tests some removal of CHPTAC has been observed. The conclusion of the ESR Risk Assessment for CHPTAC was that the substance could be considered "inherently biodegradable not meeting specific criteria".“From the two guideline studies (modified Sturm test (OECD 301B) and STP simulation test (OECD 303A)) it can be concluded that CHPTAC is not readily biodegradable. However, the removal rate constant received from the STP simulation test (0.065 h−1) is close to removalrate for inherently degradable substance, which fulfils the criteria set in the TGD (0.1 h−1).”
