Additional information

Since no reliable chronic tests involving aquatic invertebrates are available for C12-14AS Mg (CAS 90583-23-6), a read-across to structurally related category members was conducted in accordance to Regulation (EC) No. 1907/2006 Annex XI, 1.5. Read-across data from a similar substance, C12-14 AS Na (CAS 85586-07-8) were used. Toxicity of alkyl sulfates is dependent on the carbon chain length and the influence of the counter ion can be neglected.

One short term toxicity test with aquatic invertebrates is available for C12-14 AS Na (CAS 85586-07-8, Elementis, 1995). This GLP test was preformed according to the guideline EG/92/69/EWG under static conditions. Young daphnids were exposed to five test concentrations up to 10 mg a.i./L. The EC50 value after 48h was determined to be 4.7 mg a.i./L. Measured concentrations were in agreement with the nominal concentrations.
