Eight valid ready biodegradability test results are available for primary fatty amine ethoxylates. The biodegradation percentages reached at day 28 in Closed Bottle test, Sturm tests and Manometric Respiration tests ranged from 63 to 76. Moreover all aspects important for achieving a ready biodegradability test result are fulfilled. 1) ultimate (complete) biodegradation was demonstrated with a pure culture study and in a simulation test of a biological treatment, 2) high rates of degradation were also demonstrated with a pure culture and 3) occurrence of competent micro-organisms in unacclimated ecosystems was shown by the ease with which competent organisms were isolated. All primary fatty amine ethoxylates with alkyl chains ranging van 10 to 18 unsaturated/saturated should therefore be classified as readily biodegradable. Besides to degradation by microorganisms also degradation in other biota like fish was anticipated and recently also demonstrated by Geurts (2014) under 6.5 Biotransformation and kinetics.
