Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
December 29th, 2015.
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.10 (Flammability (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Key result
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

Sample melted in the place of applying the flame of burner. Sample did not burn. Time of applying the flame of burner: 30, 60, 120 s.

Result: NEGATIVE.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Remarks:
EU criteria
Conclusions:
The test item is not highly flammable in accordance with test A.10. criteria.
Executive summary:

A study to determine of flammability of the test item was carried out according to EU Method A.10, under GLP. In the preliminary test, the propagation by burning with flame or smouldering was determined. The sample did not burn at 30, 60 or 120s, but melted in the area where the flame was applied.

Based on the results, the test substance is not flammable.

Endpoint:
pyrophoric liquids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The molecular structure of the test substance does not contain any chemical groups that might lead to spontaneous ignition a short time after coming into contact with air. The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists at the sponsor and the test facilities, e.g. when handling small amounts of the test substance repeatedly in air during testing. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being pyrophoric.
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance does not contain metals or metalloids and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Justification for type of information:
JUSTIFICATION FOR DATA WAIVING
The structure of the test substance does not contain groups that might lead to the evolution of a dangerous amount of flammable gas when coming into contact with water or damp air. No metals, transition metals, boron or silicon are present. The chlorine present in the test substance will decompose to HCl but that will predominantly remain dissolved in the water phase. In addition, HCl is not flammable, and is therefore no concern for the flammablility in contact with water.
The practical experience of the sponsor and the test facility (e.g. water solubility study) shows that no gases are developed, when the test substance is in contact with water. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being flammable in contact with water.

Description of key information

Flammability: Key study. Method according to EU Method A.10, GLP study. The substance is not highly flammable.

Flammability in contact with water: Data waiving (study scientifically not necessary): Based on experience, the substance is not regarded as flammable in contact with water.

Pyrophoricity: Data waiving (study scientifically not necessary): Based on experience, the substance is regarded as not pyrophoric.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Flammability: Key study: The study was performed in accordance with EU Method A.10 and GLP standards. In the preliminary test, the propagation by burning with flame or smouldering was determined. The sample did not burn at 30, 60 or 120s, but melted in the area where the flame was applied.

Based on the results, the test substance is not flammable.

Flammability in contact with water: Data waiving (other justification): The practical experience of the sponsor and the test facility (e.g. water solubility study, ecotoxicity tests) shows that no gases are developed, when the test substance is in contact with water. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being flammable in contact with water.

Pyrophoricity: Data waiving (other justification): The test was not performed experimentally because practical experience exists at the sponsor and the test facility, e.g. when handling small amounts of the test substance repeatedly in air during testing. The test substance is therefore regarded as not being pyrophoric.

Justification for classification or non-classification

Based on the available data, the substance is not classified for flammability according to CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.
