According to the test OECD 301D, the test item was tested for its ready biodegradability in the closed bottle test at nominal concentrations of 1 and 3 mg/l.
The theoretical oxygen demand (ThOD) of the test item was determined to be 2.228 mg O2/mg.
During the total test period hardly any degradation of the test item was observed at both concentrations (<1%).
The test item was not readily biodegradable in the closed bottle test presently performed.
Under the same conditions sodium acetate was degraded by more than 60%.
Finally, the test item was not toxic to the bacteria present in the medium.
The inherent biodegradability was tested accordinh the OECD302B. The test item was investigated for its biodegradability in the 28 days Modified Zahn-Wellens Test.
The DOC-values of the test item after 3 hours of exposure were significantly lower (15 %) than at the start of the test. Therefore, the deficient DOC is considered to having been adsorbed by the activated sludge. After 7 days of exposure, 99 % of the DOC removed.
The standard, ANILINE, was degraded within 7 days by 97%.
